The Black Principals Network (BPN) in partnership with COSEBOC is hosting a workshop series designed to present Rites of Passage through the lens of Hip-Hop Pedagogy and Hip-Hop Perspective. The workshops will take place for three consecutive Mondays from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm. The workshops are free but you must join the Black Principals Network (BPN) in order to access the workshops.
Eagle Academy and Kingmakers of Oakland follow the African Proverb that states the children shall lead. Two of the most impactful and pioneering organizations from New York/New Jersey to Oakland Calfornia center young people and remove any doubt of the good hands our futures are in. In this cross, coastal collaboration, young people stand in the center and give direction to the path we should embark on and the power we set forth.
Dr. Chris Emdin will lead a presentation that allows us to imagine, embrace, and channel our ancestral genius. He is the creator of the #HipHopEd social media movement and a dynamic public speaker on several topics that include hip-hop education, STEM education, politics, race, class, diversity, and youth empowerment. Dr. Emdin reminds us that our work is to activate our imagination and carve a path towards liberation.
Mr. El-Mekki will join us on December 10, 2020 to address the topic of Liberating Education: what it is and how it can serve the education of students, particularly students of color, by liberating their Freedom Dreams.
Join us on Thursday, November 12 for our fall/winter series: Equity: Front, Center, and Fulfilled. We are pleased and honored to present Dr. Angela Ward. Profiled in Education Week as a 2019 Leader to Learn, Teaching Tolerance Magazine, Austin Woman’s Magazine and recipient of The Austin Area Urban League’s Founder’s Award, Dr. Ward manages the focus on Cultural Proficiency & Inclusiveness in a large urban school district and is motivated to study implications of the multiple relationships of education to culture, power, and society.
COSEBOC's Fall and Winter Series of virtual events begins with Cultivating Genius & Joy, presented by Dr. Gholdy Muhammad. Dr. Gholnecsar (Gholdy) Muhammad is an Associate Professor of Language and Literacy at Georgia State University.
