2017-18 Teleconference Series: Boys and Young Men of Color: Liberated, Empowered and Educated.
On October 4, 2017, the Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color is proud to announce the launch of its 2nd annual educational teleconference series, Conversations with Influential Thought Leaders. The goal of this series is to create, deepen and strengthen the capacity of educators and advocates dedicated to the affirmative development of boys and young men of color.
We are honored to have Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings as our first presenter. Dr. Ladson-Billings is a national educational treasure and the leading expert on cultural responsive education. She will present a wealth of experience, strategies and tools for every participant on the call dedicated to the affirmative development of boys and young men of color.
Her deep commitment to the building of equity centered, respectful and healthy cultural responsive classroom and school environments is unparalleled. As you can see from her resume, Dr. Ladson-Billings has been recognized worldwide for her contributions to education. She will be asked to react and respond with thoughts and ideas to the 2018 COSEBOC theme, Boys and Young Men of Color: Liberated, Empowered and Educated. We anticipate a spirited, lively and informative conversation.

Gloria Ladson-Billings is the Kellner Family Distinguished Professor in Urban Education in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction and is Faculty Affiliate in the Departments of Educational Policy Studies, Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis and Afro American Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was the 2005--2006 president of the American Educational Research Association. She is currently the President-Elect of the National Academy of Education. Ladson-Billings’ research examines the pedagogical practices of teachers who are successful with African American students. She also investigates Critical Race Theory applications to education.
Dr. Ladson-Billings is the author of the critically acclaimed books, The Dreamkeepers: Successful Teachers of African American Children, Crossing over to Canaan: The Journey of New Teachers in Diverse Classrooms, and Beyond the Big House: African American Educators on Teacher Education. She is editor of 6 other books and author of more than 100 journal articles and book chapters. She is the former editor of the American Educational Research Journal and a member of several editorial boards. Her work has won numerous scholarly awards, including the H. I. Romnes Faculty Fellowship, Spencer Post-doctoral Fellowship, and the Palmer O. Johnson outstanding research award.
